Enhance your leadership expertise through the AOA’s Leadership Academy

Applications for the 2026 cohort are now closed.

The AOA Leadership Academy provides opportunities for skill development and enhancement for future leadership roles within the AOA, the osteopathic profession and beyond. The highly competitive application process is free; however, participation in the 2026 cohort requires a registration fee of $100 for selected applicants.

Timeline

The 10-month academy will include both virtual and in-person components. We’ve partnered with GoalMakers to provide business-centric content in online modules, and participants will be required to complete 2-4 hours of online work prior to each session listed below:

  • Jan. 30-31, 2026: Academy commences with an in-person session at the AOA offices in Chicago. An optional dinner will be held on Friday, Jan. 30, and the session will take place on Saturday, Jan. 31 from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. CT.
  • Feb. 24, 2026: Virtual session from 5:30 – 8 p.m. CT
  • March 2026: Virtual session from 5:30 – 8 p.m. CT (final date TBD)
  • April 27, 2026: Virtual session from 5:30 – 8 p.m. CT
  • June 16, 2026: Virtual session from 5:30 – 8 p.m. CT
  • Aug. 2026: Virtual session from 5:30 – 8 p.m. CT (final date TBD)
  • Sept. 2026: Virtual session from 5:30 – 8 p.m. CT (final date TBD)
  • Oct. 23, 2026: In-person session at OMED26 in Las Vegas, Nevada

Please note, participants are asked to cover their own travel expenses for the two in-person meetings in January and October. Limited scholarships are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Candidates

This academy is ideal for students, residents, fellows and new physicians in practice who are looking to enhance their leadership skills. Candidates will preferably have some leadership experience within the profession prior to participating in the program.

AOA membership is a requirement to be selected for the cohort. AOA board certification is preferred when applicable.
