Teresa A. Hubka, DO

On July 20, 2024, the AOA installed Teresa A. Hubka, DO, FACOOG (Dist.), FACOG, CS, as the 128th President of the American Osteopathic Association. For the coming year, she will lead the Board of Trustees to represent the interests of more than 197,000 osteopathic physicians and medical students across the United States.
A native of San Diego, California, President Hubka began her career in health care, receiving her degree in biochemistry and nutrition science from the University of California at Davis and her Master of Science in biology and clinical nutrition from the University of Bridgeport in Connecticut.
Dr. Hubka received her osteopathic medical degree (DO) from Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine (DMU-COM) in Des Moines, Iowa, and then completed an osteopathic internship at Atlantic City Medical Center in New Jersey, followed by a residency in obstetrics and gynecologic surgery at Mercy Hospital & Medical Center in Chicago, where she served as Administrative Chief Resident.
Dr. Hubka is dually board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology by the American Osteopathic Association’s Board of Osteopathic Obstetricians and Gynecologists (AOBOG) and the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG). She is a Distinguished Fellow of ACOOG and a Diplomat of ACOG, and an inductee in the American Osteopathic Association’s Mentor Hall of Fame.
Dr. Hubka is Founder and Medical Director of Comprehensive Wellness Care, LLC, a practice specializing in Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Reproductive Health, providing complete health services to women of all ages. She has been in private practice in the Lincoln Park area of Chicago since 1994 and is currently affiliated with several hospitals in Chicago including Ascension-Resurrection Medical Center, Ascension-St. Mary’s and Elizabeth Medical Center, Advocate-Illinois Masonic Medical Center and OSF-Little Company of Mary Medical Center.
At Ascension-Resurrection Medical Center, she served as program director of the OB/GYN Residency program of Midwestern University/OPTI: Presence–Resurrection Healthcare Consortium from 2000 through 2015. She continues to be an active member of the teaching faculty and advisor to both the residents and the program’s administrative team.
In academia, Dr. Hubka is a clinical professor and the department chair of OB/GYN at Midwestern University/Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine (MWU/CCOM) and is a Costin Scholar in Medical Education, certified in the MWU-Master Faculty Series. She serves as the core and elective clerkship director for third- and fourth-year osteopathic students and as advisor to the Student Osteopathic Obstetricians and Gynecologists (SOOGA). She is also an adjunct professor at DMU-COM.
Additionally, Dr. Hubka is currently an advisory faculty and instructor for the Basic and Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (BLSO, ALSO) courses (which she has taught at local, national and international conferences since 2013) and is an active member of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) (serving on the Congressional Leadership Council), the Association of Professors in Gynecology and Obstetrics (APGO) and the Council of Resident Educators on Obstetrics and Gynecology (CREOG).
In addition to being a member the AOA Board of Trustees since 2013, Dr. Hubka has served as Chair of the Department of Professional Affairs, the Department of Education, the Department of Research and Development, the Department of Affiliate Relations, the Department of Government Affairs and several bureaus and workgroups, including Board Certification, Journal of Osteopathic Medicine, Osteopathic International Affairs and Graduate Medical Education.
Dr. Hubka is a past president of the American College of Osteopathic Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOOG) and served as founder and advisor to the Council of Postgraduates. Dr. Hubka received the ACOOG Mentor of the Year 2023. She is a past president of the American Osteopathic Foundation (AOF), the Illinois Osteopathic Medical Society (IOMS) and the Des Moines University Alumni Association. In 2014, she was the Alumnus of the Year for DMU.
Dr. Hubka was named a “top doctor” in women’s healthcare in Chicago Magazine’s annual series multiple years from 2010 and again in 2023. She received the ACOOG Distinguished Service Award 2013-2014, the highest honor bestowed by the college.
She is an advocate for women’s health and is passionate about educating patients, nurses, students and physicians. Dr. Hubka brings a wealth of experience and knowledge in women’s health and will share her osteopathic path in the world of healthcare.
