Maria Jones is a current PGY-2 in combined Emergency Medicine/Internal Medicine residency at ChristianaCare in Newark, Delaware. Originally from Maryland, she moved to Maine to complete her doctorate in osteopathic medicine, graduating from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine (UNECOM) in May 2021.
As a medical student, Dr. Jones excitedly became involved with advocacy and leadership in various capacities. She served as UNECOM’s Student Government Association President and then with the Maine Osteopathic Association Board of Directors as their student representative, with whom she gained her first experience at the AOA House of Delegates. She was also fortunate to serve as the National First Vice Chair for AACOM’s Council of Osteopathic Student Government Presidents (COSGP) executive board as well as with the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners (NBOME) as their Liaison Committee student representative.
Dr. Jones has remained involved with both AACOM and the AOA in residency. She previously served as a member of the AOA’s Bureau of Emerging Leaders and on their Communication Workforce. Currently, she also is serving as the Policy Committee Chair on AACOM’s Resident and Fellows Council. Locally, she is a member of ChristianaCare’s Resident Quality and Safety Council as one of their emergency medicine representatives. Osteopathic medicine has been integral in her education thus far. She values being a part of this osteopathic family and is excited to continue to serve this upcoming year!
Outside of medicine, Dr. Jones enjoys spending time with her family, adventuring with her boyfriend, soaking up sunshine in the warm outdoors, trying her hand at baking cakes and cookies and hopes to one day join a band as their amateur ukulele player.
