Ernest R. Gelb, DO, FACOFP, served as the 2022-23 American Osteopathic Association (AOA) President. Dr. Gelb is an assistant professor of family medicine at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM). He is an AOA board-certified osteopathic family physician and a fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (ACOFP) since 2001.

Dr. Gelb has served on the AOA’s Board of Trustees (BOT) since 2011 and is a past president of the Pennsylvania Osteopathic Medical Association (POMA), were he held several chair positions including General Chair for POMA Clinical Assembly for 13 years. He was honored with the Distinguished Service Award from POMA in 2008.

As a BOT member of the Pennsylvania Osteopathic Family Physicians Society, Dr. Gelb served as their secretary and treasurer from 2000-18 and is the 2010 recipient of their “Family Physician of the Year” award.

He received his osteopathic medical degree from PCOM and completed his postgraduate medical training at Botsford General Hospital (now known as Beaumont Hospital) in Farmington Hills, Michigan. He also served in the United States Public Health Service for two years following his residency program.

Dr. Gelb resides in Lewes, Delaware, with his wife Barbara of 38 years and their adoring Springer doodle Maggie Mae.
