Future leaders, this is the conference for you. New for 2018, Advocacy for Healthy Partnerships (AHP) and Osteopathic Medical Educators & Leaders (OMEL) Conference was combined into one program, delivering Leadership, Education, Advocacy & Development (LEAD) training to individuals throughout the osteopathic medical profession. Additional content was delivered through focused tracks providing advanced educational content to meet the needs of individual attendees. 


This integrated experience included keynote speakers for all attendees and networking opportunities allowing professionals across the career spectrum to learn from each other. Breakout sessions gave individuals a chance to choose the topic areas and focus that best met their career and leadership development needs. The closing session focused on why osteopathic leaders' unique expertise is so essential in the ongoing effort to elevate patient care and care delivery in the U.S.

Fireside chat with Kathleen Sebelius and Avik Roy

sebelius-2.jpgFormer U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius joined author and political strategist Avik Roy for a fireside chat on the future of health care delivery in America. Among many topics for debate was the implementation of the Affordable Care Act and what should happen next with public health care policy. The chat was moderated by Joseph Giaimo, DO, who is a member of the AOA Board of Trustees.

Keynote speaker: Lucy Kalanithi, MD

Lucy Kalanithi, MDLucy Kalanithi, MD, FACP, is the widow of the late Paul Kalanithi, MD, who wrote the memoir "When Breath Becomes Air," for which she wrote the epilogue. Dr. Kalanithi has special interests in health care value, meaning in medicine, patient-centered care and end-of-life based on her professional experience as an internal medicine physician and her personal experience standing alongside her husband through his diagnosis, treatment and death. Interactive career development workshops

Career coaches from The Collective Academy delivered interactive and engaging workshops on leadership and personal brand development. Flank 5 Academy delivers inspirational leadership and career fulfillment programs using a strengths-based, growth-mindset methodology. Through a combination of large group exercises and "pair and share" dialogue, participants explored how to tell their story and deliver impactful leadership.
