Shawn M. Hamm, DO, MPH, is a board-certified family medicine physician with UNC Health Blue Ridge who also serves as the Medical Director of the Burke County Health Department in Morgantown, N.C. Additionally, Dr. Hamm is the Physician Liaison for Quality and Population Health within the UNC Health Blue Ridge Medical Group and serves as an adjunct assistant professor of family medicine for the Campbell University-Jerry M. Wallace School of Osteopathic Medicine (CUSOM). Dr. Hamm completed his family medicine training at the St. Vincent’s Family Medicine Residency Program in Jacksonville, Fla., where he received the Spirit of Family Medicine Award, and the Distinction of Advanced Osteopathic Training in Family Medicine from the American Osteopathic Association (AOA).

Prior to his clinical training, Dr. Hamm had a unique career in healthcare administration and public health. He was the Center Manager of three Federally Qualified Health Centers in a rural, medically underserved region of Florida. He then became a Performance Improvement Consultant for the Division of Children’s Medical Services at the Florida Department of Health, where he earned his Six Sigma Greenbelt Certification.

Dr. Hamm has served in many volunteer leadership roles at the state and national level, including President of the Resident Board of Directors at the Florida Academy of Family Physicians, Advocacy Workgroup Chair/New Physician in Practice member of the AOA Bureau of Emerging Leaders and the New Physician in Practice member of the AOA Bureau on Federal Health Programs. For his national advocacy on legislative issues affecting graduate medical education and the osteopathic profession, Dr. Hamm was selected as the 2020 American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine ED to MED Outstanding Advocate of the Year.

Dr. Hamm earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine (COM) in 2018.
