2024 BIOM Abstract Competition

Call for OMED 2024 Research Abstracts

The Bureau of International Osteopathic Medicine (BIOM) and the American Osteopathic Association’s (AOA) Research Abstract & Student Poster Competition are proud to announce their merger for the 2024 competition. This year marks the 26th annual global health competition, now enriched by our collaboration with the AOA research competition, showcasing our commitment to advancing excellence in health care research.

Eligibility

To qualify for the International Health category of the combined competition, research must:

  • Be conducted in low- or middle-income countries.
  • Focus on resource-constrained settings or on underserved populations.
  • Address global health crises, pandemics, vaccine distribution, preventative health and/or health disparities outside the U.S.

Virtual poster session

The Osteopathic Medical Education Conference (OMED) offers a unique platform for researchers to present their findings. Primary investigators with accepted abstracts are required to showcase their research through a digital (virtual) poster presentation held in conjunction with the OMED conference. Additionally, for the first time this year, approved international abstracts will be published on the Journal of Osteopathic Medicine (JOM) website.

Awards

Award amounts in the international competition mirror those of the general competition, and are as follows:

  • First Place (one available): $500
  • Second Place (two available): $250

Submission details and more information

Comprehensive details on submission guidelines, judging criteria and more are available on the OMED Research Competition webpage.

Note: This year, the BIOM will transition away from accepting narrative abstracts, focusing solely on research abstracts. Additionally, please note that the criteria for the international competition will vary slightly from the non-international competition, so please consult the “Review Criteria” section of the Abstract Criteria for more details.

Thank you to our co-sponsors for their generous support!
