Brian J. Loveless, DO, is AOA board-certified in both NMM and family medicine with osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT). He currently serves as the Second Vice President on the AOA’s Board of Trustees. He serves as chief medical officer of WesternU Health and a professor in the department of neuromusculoskeletal medicine (NMM)/osteopathic manipulative medicine (OMM) at Western University of Health Sciences/College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific (WesternU/COMP).
Dr. Loveless previously served as vice chair of the department of NMM/OMM and chair of the curriculum committee at WesternU/COMP. Earlier in his career, he chaired the department of family medicine at Chino Valley Medical Center, where he taught in the family medicine residency program for more than a decade. He is a principal investigator on grant-funded research examining OMT and immune response and co-authored the NMM/OMM specialist chapter in the fourth and fifth editions of “Foundations of Osteopathic Medicine.” He is also a columnist for The DO, writing pieces for The DO Distinction, a recurring column in the magazine.
A past president of the Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons of California (OPSC), Dr. Loveless has chaired the California delegation to the AOA House of Delegates since 2020 and serves on the AOA Bureau on Federal Health Programs. He authored three resolutions adopted by the House, including the 2025 Definition of an Osteopathic Physician, and is a past member of the American Academy of Osteopathy (AAO) Board of Governors. In 2018, he was named as Physician of the Year by the American Osteopathic Foundation (AOF).
Dr. Loveless earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from WesternU/COMP and his Bachelor of Science in biochemistry and cell biology from the University of California, San Diego. He completed a traditional rotating internship, family practice residency and NMM/OMM +1 residency at Chino Valley Medical Center and holds a Certificate of Competency from the Osteopathic Cranial Academy (OCA).
