RESULTS Act: Protecting access to clinical laboratory testing

By AOA Staff

12.11.25

To safeguard patient access to vital clinical laboratory services, the AOA signed onto a broad coalition letter supporting the Reforming and Enhancing Sustainable Updates to Laboratory Testing Services (RESULTS) Act (S. 2761 / H.R. 5269).

The letter notes that:

  • The Clinical Laboratory Fee Schedule (CLFS) accounts for less than 1% of Medicare spending, yet laboratory services inform roughly 70% of clinical decision-making.
  • Without legislative action, roughly 800 tests could face cuts of up to 15% on Jan. 1, 2026, threatening access to both routine and life-saving diagnostics.
  • The RESULTS Act would update the CLFS using more representative commercial market data, reduce administrative reporting burden, and provide greater payment stability to support innovation in diagnostics.

The coalition calls on Congress to act swiftly to prevent deep, across-the-board cuts and ensure patients maintain access to appropriate laboratory testing.
