AOA opposes Virginia’s S.B. 904 to protect physicians and patients

The AOA and the Virginia Osteopathic Medical Association (VOMA) recently partnered on a grassroots campaign strongly opposing Virginia Senate Bill 904. This bill seeks to eliminate the medical malpractice cap for cases involving patients under 10 years old, a move that would have significant negative consequences for Virginia’s health care system.

The current law prevents excessive damage awards and helps keep malpractice insurance costs manageable, ensuring physicians can focus on providing quality care. Removing the cap would encourage unnecessary litigation, increase defensive medicine and worsen Virginia’s physician shortage.

The AOA and our affiliates will continue to fight back against legislation that harms physician practices and patient access to care. The AOA and VOMA will continue to monitor this state legislation and take additional action if necessary.
