Advocacy win: Ontario recognizes AOA board certification and residency training

By AOA Staff

07.07.24

The AOA is dedicated to advancing recognition and practice rights for osteopathic physicians abroad, and recently achieved a major win in Ontario. Following years of advocacy by the AOA, the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners and the Canadian Osteopathic Association, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) voted to amend its bylaws to recognize AOA board certification at its May 2024 meeting. Further, according to subsequent communications, the CPSO will also accept AOA residency programs that were subsequently accepted by the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) during the transition to a single accreditation system under the ACGME. The updated version of the bylaws is expected to be implemented in August 2024.
