Partnering with the AOA, the Indiana Osteopathic Association (IOA) brought osteopathic physicians and students to the Indiana Statehouse on Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2026, for IOA’s DO Day at the Statehouse, where participants engaged directly with lawmakers on critical healthcare issues impacting Indiana.

With major legislative decisions underway, advocates emphasized the need to reduce administrative burdens on physicians, protect patient access and strengthen Indiana’s physician workforce. During meetings with members of the Indiana General Assembly, the osteopathic community urged action on the following priorities:

  • House Bill 1271: Improves transparency in healthcare billing, curbs unfair insurance payment practices and reduces administrative burdens that take physicians away from patient care.
  • Senate Bill 189: Protects physicians and hospitals from penalties related to out-of-network care when patients have no control over provider selection.
  • Graduate Medical Education (GME) funding: Increases investment to help Indiana train and retain the next generation of physicians, particularly in rural and underserved communities.

As the session continues, physician advocacy remains critical to shaping health policy and protecting patient care across Indiana.
