Non-compete clauses in healthcare: Tell your story

By AOA Staff

10.15.25

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is seeking feedback on how non-compete clauses in employment contracts impact physicians, patients and the healthcare system. The agency’s Request for Information (RFI), released on Sept. 4, 2025, aims to better understand how these clauses affect career mobility, physician well-being, innovation and patient access to care.

As part of its review, the FTC has also urged healthcare organizations to examine their employment agreements, noting that the agency may take action against employers using non-competes in ways that could constitute “unfair methods of competition.”

The AOA encourages physicians to share their experiences. Your feedback will help inform the FTC’s next steps and ensure osteopathic voices are heard in shaping fair employment practices across healthcare.
