The AOA, in partnership with more than 30 state and specialty affiliates, continues to amplify the osteopathic voice in Washington. Recently, the AOA and its affiliates submitted joint letters to Congress and the U.S. Department of Education addressing two major policy issues: extending key health program funding and protecting the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program.

Protecting health programs: The coalition urged Congress to extend funding for Teaching Health Center GME, the STAR Loan Repayment Program and Medicare telehealth flexibilities, programs vital to sustaining care in rural and underserved communities. The letter called for long-term reauthorization to ensure workforce stability and protect patient access.

Defending PSLF: The AOA and affiliates also voiced concern with proposed changes to the PSLF program that could restrict eligibility for nonprofit and public-sector physicians. The letter urged the Department of Education to maintain current protections so physicians can continue serving patients in need without financial barriers.

By working closely with affiliates, the AOA is ensuring that osteopathic physicians nationwide have a strong, unified voice advocating for policies that support the workforce and protect patient care.
