Women have been involved in osteopathic medicine from the very beginning. In 1892, when A.T. Still, MD, DO, opened the first osteopathic medical school, the inaugural class of 21 students included six women, according to the Museum of Osteopathic Medicine. Over the years, the number of female doctors has grown steadily. In the past 50 years, the growth has been exponential.
