CHICAGO—September 12, 2019—The American Osteopathic Association released the following statement in response to the FDA’s move to ban flavored vaping products following several recent e-cigarette related deaths.

“The American Osteopathic Association commends the Food and Drug Administration’s swift action to ban flavored e-cigarettes in light of the ongoing public health crisis that has so far killed six users and sickened hundreds of others.

“Flavored vaping materials target vulnerable youth. This ban may help end this public health emergency and deter others from putting their lives at risk by using these unregulated devices.

“The nation’s 145,000 osteopathic physicians and medical students joined in the call for immediate action to limit access to these dangerous products and appreciate the swift response from the FDA. The AOA will continue to be part of the solution through ongoing efforts to educate patients about the serious harms of vaping,” says AOA President Ronald Burns, DO.
