Jacob Kalin, DO

Paging Dr. Kalin! This former osteopathic medical student has officially transitioned into the role of a newly minted first year resident. The recent transition of Jacob Kalin, DO, marks a significant milestone, and in this spotlight, we explore how his journey continues to evolve in the world of patient care.

Prior to osteopathic medical school, Dr. Kalin received a Bachelor of Science in Integrative Animal Biology with a minor in Public Health. He traveled from Florida to Arizona to attend A.T. Still University School of Osteopathic Medicine in Arizona (ATSU-SOMA). During medical school, he was heavily involved in The Nutrition and Health Awareness Program where he served as President, First-Year Volunteer Coordinator and conducted research to supplement curriculum knowledge of elementary schools regarding health topics. Additionally, he served as Vice President for the school’s Lifestyle Medicine Club.

Initially, Dr. Kalin envisioned a career in pediatrics, having been inspired by his own positive experiences in this specialty and strong interest in preventive care. During medical school, his passion expanded to include caring for adults, appreciating the opportunity for continuity of care. He deeply values the unique role of a primary care physician in the advocacy of underserved populations and aspires to serve as a compassionate patient-center physician. Ultimately, he hopes to pursue a career in academic medicine, teaching future students and residents.

This year, Dr. Kalin began the next chapter of his journey as a PGY-1 Family Medicine resident at Morsani College of Medicine, proudly joining its inaugural class. As a new resident, he has already actively engaged in two research projects, one published and one set to be presented at Florida Academy of Family Physicians (FAFP).

Dr. Kalin encourages those transitioning from osteopathic medical student to resident to trust your training and lean on your colleagues. Don’t underestimate the impact you’re making and celebrate the small victories.
