Congressional update: Healthcare costs and Medicare policy in focus

Congress is back in session with continued attention on health care affordability and oversight. The House Energy and Commerce Committee is advancing discussions on food safety and FDA oversight, while the House Ways and Means Committee will examine rising healthcare costs through a hearing with health system leaders. Additional action on drug pricing and affordability is expected in the coming weeks.

At the agency level, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is moving forward with 2027 Medicare payment and policy proposals, including updates that could impact reimbursement, prior authorization, and administrative burden for physicians.

As Congress and the administration advance health policy priorities, these developments may impact Medicare payment, regulatory requirements and patient access. The AOA will remain actively engaged, monitoring progress and keeping the osteopathic community informed.
