This week, AOA President Ira P. Monka, DO, launched a grassroots campaign encouraging his colleagues to help facilitate change on Capitol Hill by writing their federal lawmakers to ask them to reauthorize the Teaching Health Center Graduate Medical Education program (THCGME) and prevent a government shutdown. Dr. Monka’s message states that a looming government shutdown has the potential to disrupt health care services like the THCGME program, absent Congressional action.

The campaign also states that in these challenging times, it is paramount that we work together to prevent such disruptions. The THCGME program has proven to be a lifeline for underserved communities, increasing access to quality health care. By reauthorizing and strengthening this program, we can train more physicians who are passionate about serving in areas where they are needed most.

Help join our advocacy efforts by writing to your members of Congress today. Remind Congress that patients rely on the stability and continuity of health care services and the THCGME program.
