The Student National Medical Association (SNMA) is a non-profit organization founded under the National Medical Association (NMA) to support current and future underrepresented minority medical students. SNMA works to address the needs of underserved communities and increase the number of clinically excellent, culturally competent, and socially conscious physicians. Your current liaison to the SNMA/AOA  is Erin Igwacho, OMS III, who attends the Kansas City University College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Mentoring opportunities

A vital way SNMA cultivates this support is through mentorship to pre-medical and medical students at all levels throughout their journey. The Osteopathic Schools Committee, a national committee within SNMA, partners with the AOA to funnel motivated and empathetic osteopathic alumni to help mentor the future generation of physicians to DO great things. If any osteopathic alumni have a zeal and niche for mentorship and inspiring the future generation of students, please fill out this quick form so we can reach out for next steps.

Annual conference set for March 27-31

Each year, SNMA hosts its Annual Medical Education Conference (AMEC), which features research symposiums, workshops, keynote speakers, and, most significantly, programming for students to learn more about osteopathic medicine. During the annual osteopathic breakfast, osteopathic alumni from across the globe share informative takeaways and lessons learned. If any organizations or DO alums are interested in helping sponsor an osteopathic program and/or will be in the New Orleans area the weekend of March 27-31, 2024, we would love to have you at our action-packed 60th AMEC.  Please see snma.org for more information.
