On Jan. 2, 2024, the AOA and the American College of Osteopathic Pediatricians (ACOP) sent a letter thanking Reps. Chrissy Houlahan and Stephanie Bice for introducing the bipartisan Access to Donor Milk Act (H.R. 5486). This bipartisan legislation would allow states to use Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) funding to promote viability and access to donor milk programs and provide funding for emergency capacity to mitigate shortages during major disaster declared by the President.

Jason Jackson, DO, assistant professor of pediatrics at Ohio State University/Nationwide Children’s Hospital and AOA advocate recently wrote an article in The DO outlining the importance of this bill and the need to raise its visibility. The AOA will continue to work with our affiliates and monitor this bill in the 118th Congress.
