Finding Your Reset Point

Building resilience

Realign your mental state through mindfulness

A growing body of research shows mindfulness can help reduce stress and alleviate anxiety, depression and exhaustion.

If you identify with many of the common warning signs of physician burnout, or worry that you’re heading down that road, it may help to press the “reset” button on your mindfulness.

Mindfulness is a mental state achieved by focusing one’s awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one’s feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations. Common approaches to achieve mindfulness include:

  • Meditation
  • Mindful attention
  • Sports
  • Dance
  • Yoga
  • Prayer
  • Art
  • Music

Also, try to develop your own resilience. More than enduring a challenging situation without being harmed, resilience means coming out of the situation stronger than before. It requires both mental and physical endurance and takes time, but it can help you maintain your mindfulness and work-life balance.
