AOF & AOA partner to offer funding for 18-month research projects rooted in osteopathic principles and practice.
The American Osteopathic Association and American Osteopathic Foundation provide funding for osteopathically-focused research conducted by new physicians and PhD researchers. NOTE: The AOA no longer funds basic science research projects. AOA-funded research projects will address the tenets of osteopathic medicine and advance the distinctiveness of the osteopathic profession through patient-focused research projects.
This grant was established to advance the scientific training of new investigators interested in conducting research projects in clinical science or health services that will contribute to the field of osteopathic medicine research. In addition, the grant is intended to encourage individuals to contribute to osteopathic research throughout their careers.
A new investigator is defined as a Principal Investigator (PI) who has completed his/her terminal research degree or end of postgraduate clinical training, whichever completion date is later, within the past 10 years. Individuals who have previously competed successfully as a PI for a larger AOA grant (i.e., $100,000 to $150,000 award) and/or received an R01 National Institutes of Health (NIH) grant or its equivalent as a PI are not eligible.
Proposals must comply with the specific requirements for topics and scope of research projects as set forth in the respective RFAs for the larger research grants.
Once completed, findings of funded research will be submitted for publication in the Journal of Osteopathic Medicine (JOM), the official scientific publication of the AOA. Research grant recipients are required to provide the JOM with first right of refusal on publication of findings generated from the grant.
