Ohio & Cleveland Clinic Announce New COM

In a joint effort to widen osteopathic educational and postdoctoral training opportunities while improving access to care for Ohio patients, the Cleveland Clinic and the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine (OU-HCOM) announced plans to develop a Northeast Ohio OU-HCOM extension campus at the Cleveland Clinic’s South Pointe Hospital in Warrensville Heights, Ohio. The first class of 32 medical students is scheduled to begin in July 2015, assuming approvals by the AOA Council on Osteopathic College Accreditation.  Through this affiliation, the partners are addressing the growing shortage of primary care physicians in Ohio and investing a combined $49.1 million into Northeast Ohio.  The Cleveland Clinic is also committed to working to expand the number of AOA-approved or dual-accredited postdoctoral positions. AOA Trustee and Buckeye Robert S. Juhasz, DO, was on hand for the celebrations following the 6/11/12 press conference.
