Help Kids with Muscular Dystrophy Experience the Summer of a Lifetime

Camper and aide An osteopathic medical student serves as a one-on-one counselor during the Muscular Dystrophy Association's annual summer camp program.

DOs and osteopathic medical students can help children with muscular dystrophy and related neuromuscular disorders participate in summer camp activities by volunteering at a camp hosted by the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA).

The MDA is in need of students, residents, and physicians to serve as medical staff or volunteer counselors during the one-week camps held across the country between May and August. Each location serves 40-100 campers between the ages of 6 and 17 who have been diagnosed with muscular dystrophy.

In partnership with the AOA, the American Osteopathic Foundation, and the MDA, the osteopathic medical profession has a unique opportunity to deliver osteopathic care to the patients at these camps and to give back to surrounding communities.

Once you've applied, your information will be distributed to the MDA to begin the more formal application process, which includes a request for references, interview, and background check.

For more information or to inquire about other camp sites and dates, contact Gloria Dillard at gdillard@osteopathic.org or (312) 202-8006.
